How We Started
Our Mission
Counsel and educate youth about leading healthy and active lifestyle as well as heart healthy eating habits.
Encourage and Inspire patients suffering with cardiac disease or cardiac defect to maximize their personal growth and development.
Develop discipline, commitment and other personal qualities.
To raise public awareness of medical/emotional/social/community support needed for patients of pediatric cardiology.
Provide funding and financial support to patients, local hospitals, clinics, and research facilities which are advancing the medical treatment of heart disease.
Our Approach
Community centers are everywhere. Once we started partnering with commmunity center we understood that creating another one was not the solution. We are not interested in a brick/mortar location. Instead of competing for children’s time with schools and afterschool programs, we are here to partner and help improve the existing programs. We are fully mobile and virtual organization. Our team of coaches visits community centers, schools and other places that children are spending their time. We are also a B2B organization (business to business) so we do not market or sell services directly to consumers.
The two major things that we are fighting are: sedentary lifestyle, and the standard American diet. Functional fitness is our primary tool, but we also educate and invest time to develop long term heart healthy habits. We don’t stick to a single nutritional approach, as most “diets” are flawed and not sustainable in the areas and populations that we work with. We promote a diet comprised mostly of minimally processed, generally plant-predominant foods in balanced combinations which is proven and stands to reduce the risk of all chronic diseases (True Health Initiative).
We truly believe that a comprehensive program is needed in order to create the greatest impact.
Why we focus on youth?
Heart disease is the number one killer worldwide! Risk factors start as early as childhood, and majority can be prevented (sedentary lifestyle, inactivity, obesity, and smoking). Approximately 80% of heart disease is preventable (CDC). We are addressing the risk factors by focusing on activity! This includes; educating, developing habits, and leading by example! Byproducts of active lifestyle are much greater and include improved mental health, reduced depression, and much more.
Who we are?
Fight Fight For Hearts is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization comprised of health and fitness professionals who's goal is to raise awareness, educate, and improve the heart health of the youth population within our community. Only 21.6% of children ages 6-19 receive the minimum required physical activity daily (2016 Activity Report Card). Since COVID-19, these numbers have gotten worse. We provide variety of fitness and health services for the youth population. By focusing on youth (ages 6-17), we can educate, develop healthy habits, improve fitness as well as other personal qualities that will last a lifetime.
Our Vision
To create an engaging and sustainable fitness experience which is convenient, fun and free.
Our History
Fight For Hearts was founded by Srdan Lukic who was born with a congenital heart defect (TGV/VSD) and survived 3 open heart surgeries, as well as Hepatitis C (due to blood transfusion and eventually overcame it with the help of modern medication). Srdan’s life was filled with restrictions, medication and having to take extra care of his health without much guidance. This led to unhealthy behavior, weight gain, and sedentary life. In his late teens, Srdan begun focusing on healthy living and daily exercise. Health improvements were immediate and included; lowered resting heart rate, blood pressure, and improving body composition. Living on both ends of the spectrum (sedentary/obese to a high level athlete), led Srdan to understand that both ends are unhealthy, which helped us define our training for the “Sport of Health”.
